The aim of the symposium is to communicate with the researchers who are concerned with city planning or environmental management for Asian countries. This symposium will be held at Mokpo National University (61, Torim-ri, Chonggye-myon, Muan-gun, Chollanam-do, Korea), 11th Jan., 2000. The main topics covered focus on urban environment and landscape in Asian countries.
Mokpo (population: 253,000 in 1990, area: 56km2) where the symposium will be held is the one of the provincial harbor city and the important traffic terminal in southwest Korea, because the city includes the end of the Route 1 and the terminal of Korean railways. Mokpo is ranked as the sub central city in the Korean National Development Plan. Recently, the city is pushing some urban development projects such as harbor place facilities, industrial parks at inland, and sub urban center at the southwest area.
